All That Remains – Thunder Rolls

All That Remains – Thunder Rolls

Band: All That Remains

Song Review: Thunder Rolls (Garth Brooks Cover)

CD: “Madness”

KLICK IT OR FLICK IT? – KLICK IT! and I tip my hat to you

Overall Impression:

Covers are my thing.  I love them, I long for new ones.  I crave to see how bands interpret songs and make them their own.  There are some artists though that when I see a cover of I am very hesitant to even listen.  Garth Brooks is one of those artists, reason being he is so damn iconic.  He can tell a story like many others can’t.  Regardless of any attire, background music etc. Garth Brooks in my opinion IS rock and roll.

Now that I have said that … I saw this track come into my inbox awhile back and thought “OK, I am already a HUGE All That Remains fan and a HUGE Garth fan so let me see how this is going to play out so, I listened and listened again, then again, then watched the video and then listened again.  I was absolutely captivated.  Their interpretation of this ICONIC song was outstanding.
It kept the true feeling to the song while adding just a hint of change making it their own.  The more haunting tone in the vocals gave me chills.  While Garth can give you the “haunting” aspect through his face Philip gives to you ten-fold in vocals.  The guitars of Oli & Mike were nothing short of amazing and captivating.  Aaron pumping out that deep bass.  The drums … the drums … the drums … with that cool beat.  Jason’s drumming is piercing.  Let’s not forget the touch of the metal scream thrown in there. LOVED IT … LOVED IT … LOVED IT.  My only complaint is in wanting to know what the hell took them so long to release this brilliant version.

Side Note: Video is stunning.

Disclosure:
I am 1 person giving my 1 opinion on tracks/records and some may agree some may disagree. That is the beauty of any piece of art, each person sees it different.
When it comes down to it I am in radio and I am NOT a journalist nor do I pretend to play one on TV so please no grammar police etc.
