STONE TEMPLE PILOTS Unveil 'Perdida' Album Details, Announce North American Acoustic Tour
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will release their new album, “Perdida”, on February 7. The mostly acoustic record was recorded at drummer Eric Kretz‘s Bomb Shelter Studio and produced by the bandmembers themselves.

“This is an album we’ve been wanting to make for quite some time,” STP bassist Robert DeLeo tells Rolling Stone. “Most of our songs start acoustically and we felt these would come across in the most genuine way if we kept them that way.”

According to singer Jeff Gutt, many of the songs on “Perdida” — the Spanish word for “loss” — deal with heartbreak and grief. “I was looking back at difficult moments in my life,” he said. “I was trying to be vulnerable and that’s a scary thing to do, but it’s also kind of comfortable.”

The first single from the disc, “Fare Thee Well”, can be streamed below. The track is “about being on the road,” says Robert. “And it’s an observation about life.”

“Perdida” track listing

In support of “Perdida”, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will embark on a special acoustic North American tour of theaters and clubs. “We’ll probably have a keyboard player and another guitar player and some strings,” Robert tells Rolling Stone. “It’s always nice to add some wonderful musicians and hear what they’re doing to your music.”

Gutt, a 43-year-old Michigan native who spent time in the early-2000s nu-metal act DRY CELL, among other bands, and was a contestant on “The X Factor”, joined STONE TEMPLE PILOTS in 2017 after beating out roughly 15,000 hopefuls during an extended search that began more than a year earlier.

Original STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Scott Weiland, who reunited with the group in 2010 after an eight-year hiatus but was dismissed in 2013, died in December 2015 of a drug overdose.

Chester Bennington, who joined STP in early 2013, departed nearly three years later to spend more time with his main band LINKIN PARK. Bennington committed suicide in July 2017.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS recently completed a co-headlining North American tour with RIVAL SONS. The trek kicked off in Baltimore on September 13, with stops in Philadelphia, New York City, New Orleans and more, before wrapping up in STONE TEMPLE PILOTS‘ former hometown of San Diego on October 9.
